Social Responsibility
Our firm and our staff engage in both formal and informal philanthropy. The firm supports individual employees' interests in innovative social programs through our Social Impact Forum, a grassroots program conceived of and run by staff. The forum's lecture series invites leaders and thinkers to speak on topics ranging from global health to education to criminal justice, and is designed to spark conversation and promote community engagement. Past speakers have included the founder of Teach For America, the former international president of Doctors Without Borders, and the president of Union of Concerned Scientists. A forum-related volunteer program offers employees the chance to work together on service projects in education, environmentalism, and poverty relief
We are committed to social responsibility at the firm level as well. The Matador Trading is a sponsor of various non-profit academic conferences, organizations, and competitions, including 100 Women in Hedge Funds, the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, the Neural Information Processing Systems Foundation (NIPS), the American Regions Math League (ARML), and the Math Olympiad Summer Program,. The firm amplifies employees' charitable donations with a popular matching gift program for both volunteer time and financial contributions; we also make an annual year-end grant to a charitable cause in lieu of more traditional holiday gifts to our investors and business counter-parties. We also take seriously our efforts to manage the firm's environmental impact. Since 2012, we have purchased a combination of renewable energy credits and verified carbon offsets to neutralize the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from our office power consumption, business travel, and other activities.
In addition, our Colorado headquarters received the U.S. Green Building Council's Gold certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
